What is Anti-Wrinkle Injectable? Should I have Anti-Wrinkle Injection?

One of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments, in 2018 number 1 non-surgical procedures in women and men is Botulinum Toxin (Anti Wrinkle Injection)

What is Anti-Wrinkle injection?

Most people will refer to Botox, however, this is technically a brand name. The substance used in Anti-Wrinkle Injection is known as Botulinum Toxin (BoNT), a natural, highly purified, neurotoxic protein derived from bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. There are seven main types of Botulinum Toxin, types A, B, C1, C2, D, E, F, and G. Botulinum Toxin type A is the substance commonly used in cosmetic injectables.

Sounds complex so is it safe to have BoNT injection?

In 1978, FDA has approved Alan B. Scott, an ophthalmologist, the researcher also known as Botox Pioneer to use botulinum toxin (Oculinum) to treat strabismus. Company Allergan acquired the drug then named it as Botox.

In 1987, a surprising and accidental discovery of toxin can be used in cosmetic applications by an eye specialist, Jean Carruthers. A patient of Jean, who suffered from blepharospasm was complaining Jean didn’t inject her inner brow, because the patient said that injection made her lines disappear. Jean then shared this finding with her husband, Alastair Carruthers, a cosmetic dermatologist. The couple then published their study in 1992 for their discovery.

In 2002, Botulinum toxin type A has been approved by FDA for aesthetic uses. Now botulinum toxin type A has been widely used in the cosmetic industry. According to UCSF Health, an estimated 11 million people have used botulinum toxin injections worldwide, and it is now one of the most common non-invasive cosmetic procedures.

Anti-Wrinkle injection is a safe procedure if performed by well-trained and qualified medical professionals.

How does Anti-Wrinkle injection work?

Botulinum toxin is neurotoxin, it inhibits the release of acetylcholine at the junction where nerve endings meet muscle cells, causing a neuromuscular blocking effect. The muscle then relaxes, temporarily paralyzed which reduces wrinkle lines. Depending on the individual and area treated, the effect on the injection will occur in 3-10 days, and normally last 3-6 months or 4 months in average.

Typical Treatments areas

Forehead, Between Eyebrows, Upper Eyebrow, Crow’s Feet, Bunny Lines, Dimpled Chin, Smile Lines, Neck Bands, Non-Surgical Nose Job, Lip Flip, Gummy Smile Treatment, Jawline Contouring, Excessive Sweating, and more….

Generally, Botulinum toxin is best for Dynamic wrinkles, but it also works well in Static wrinkles with Dermal filler.

Who can get botulinum toxin injections & who should not?

You need to be healthy and at least 18 years old before you can get botulinum toxin injections.

Some people should not get botulinum toxin injection if they,

o Pregnant or breastfeeding

o Have a neuromuscular disorder

o Allergic to botulinum toxin
